Adnan Sharafi

Adnan Sharafi is a civil Engineer by profession, Adnan Sharafi has over 30 years of experience in technical and management positions both in public service as well as private service. His academic and technical training includes a diploma in engineering technology, a degree in civil engineering and masters in business administration. He is a certified lead auditor for ISO 9000, certified real-estate management professional, certified OAM and has had many vocational training in subjects like Value Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Project Management. and strategic planning to name a few.

His career started as an Engineer in the field of standards, testing, compliance and assessment of buildings in the construction and post construction stages. He has been involved with many condition surveys for the government bodies and assessment of cause of collapsed structures for the Dubai police. He was the key person to develop the Dubai Municipality Engineering laboratories as well as the Dubai Central Laboratories ( multidiscipline) and Dubai Accreditation Centre. Has carried out researches and published in peer reviewed journals, submitted conference papers and spoken at many professional conferences.

His passion for sustainability started during college, where he designed, built and tested a solar collector. Later he was involved with testing the first solar hot water heater in the UAE, was involved with carrying out an applied research project in energy conservation funded by DOW chemicals, installation of the first solar airconditioner in the UAE, and instrumental in preparing the first energy conservation in buildings legislation enforced by Dubai Municipality.

Presently Managing ALARSH, a company specializing in facilities management, energy management and management of owners associations.

Jeff Willis

Jeff Willis is an engineer with nearly 40 years of experience in the construction industry. He has been working for ARUP for 30 years, in roles based in Europe, the Middle East and the Far East. During that time Jeff has worked on a wide scope of projects, including individual building design, master planning, and Commercial, Industrial and Transportation & Infrastructure design.

He is currently based in Dubai as sustainability leader for ARUP in his third posting to the Middle East. Jeff previously spent time in both Qatar (1983-87) and in Abu Dhabi (1993-95), He has a long standing interest in sustainable design for buildings and urban development's. In addition to representing ARUP on the Board, Jeff is also a founding member of the EmiratesGBC and currently holds the position of chairman.

He has represented both ARUP and the EmiratesGBC at international conferences on sustainable building design and has lectured on sustainable design at the University of Singapore and at Sharjah University. He is also a member of the advisory group for the Sustainable Design of the Build Environment Programme at the British University in Dubai.

Saeed Alabbar

Saeed is currently working as a Senior Sustainability Consultant at AESG, a firm specialising in cost effective energy and sustainability solutions.  He holds a First Class Masters degree with honours in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bath and is a LEED Accredited Professional and Estidama Pearl Qualified Professional. 

Saeed has been involved in a variety of sustainable design projects in the region; including large master plan developments, new buildings and strategic infrastructure development.  Saeed has an avid interest in the application of practical and cost effective sustainable design and resource efficiency solutions and is committed to the advancement of sustainable development in the UAE.  Saeed is currently the Vice Chairman of the Emirates Green Building Council and is committed to working closely with local universities and government departments to drive the industry towards sustainable urban development

Sarfraz Dairkee

A hands-on professional with over 30 years practice in a wide range of technologies with multidisciplinary experience in management, design & development, manufacturing, operation and maintenance. He is a Mechanical, Marine engineer and an alumni of Indian Institute of Management- Ahmedabad.

Sarfraz has been passionately involved with Appropriate Technology, Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Systems for more than 30 years; and recipient of Legend in Energy -2010 award. He is a LEED Accredited Professional, Certified Energy Manager, Certified Building Commissioning Professional, and a Qualified Trainer for Pumping System Optimization (Hydraulic Institute-USA)

He was instrumental in launching India's first commercial Windmill, and in developing Solar Tower Collector (CSP), Vapor Absorption Refrigerator and computer for simulation programs for air-conditioners in 80's and was awarded Voltas Excellence Award in '83. During mid eighties he developed computerized pump selection program, pump testing programs with graphics using Lotus123 regression analysis and macros and published papers on the computer applications for designing pumps and motors appropriate to the Indian industry at that time.

Presently he is working with MAHY Khoory & Co. LLC, Dubai, as General Manager, Corporate Development & Engineering and was instrumental in initiating Energy Audits, Commissioning, Water Efficiency and several other ground breaking ideas suited for the region delivering profitability and sustainability. He is one of the founding members of the Emirates Green Building Council; he is also a Senior Member of the Association of Energy Engineers, ASHRAE and International Desalination Association.

Habiba Al Marashi

Habiba Al Marashi is the co-founder and Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), a pioneering organization based in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Under Mrs. Al Marashi's guidance, EEG became the first environmental NGO in the world to receive an ISO 14001 certification in 2001. EEG is also the only organization of its kind in the GCC, with accreditation with two highly esteemed UN bodies, namely the United Nations Convention to Combating Desertification (UNCCD) and the United Nations Environmental Program's (UNEP) Governing Council. EEG is a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) since 2008. These accreditations ensure the Group's involvement and participation in international environmental discussions, programs and campaigns.

Through her leadership, she initiated the first corporate social responsibility (CSR) network in the country in 2004 as the only multi-stakeholder forum with local and multinational entities. The network has grown & evolved into an independent body known as the Arabia CSR Network.

Apart from this she is one of the founders of the Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC). She is also a board member of the UN Global Compact since 2006 and President of the UN Global Compact Local Network for the GCC States.

Mrs. Al Marashi is involved in many leading initiatives on environment, women and development at the national, regional and international levels. She is a recognized representative and spokesperson for West Asian Arab nations at high ranking international summits. She is a recipient of several awards for her contribution and achievements in Environmental & Social work.
