BUiD Announces Sustainability Summer School
British University in Dubai (BUiD) will hold its Sustainability Summer School in June 2012. The Sustainability Summer School will give local and international students a general understanding of sustainability and provide insight on pathways to achieve a sustainable future.  Political, economic, social and technological challenges of sustainable development will be explored, as will debates be initiated on identifying solutions.  Contact buidsss@buid.ac.ae to apply.

 

UAE Initiative “Green Economy for Sustainable Development” Launched
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, announced the long term national initiative to build a green economy in the UAE.  EmiratesGBC congratulates the UAE Government for this initiative and what it will accomplish for the advancement of sustainability and green buildings in the UAE.

 

Bayer MaterialScience Announces “Help Avoid Desertification” Challenge
Bayer MaterialScience, EmiratesGBC Corporate Member, is showing its commitment to meet the global challenges of energy shortage, climate change and desertification by developing their “Help Avoid Desertification!” contest.  The contest is soliciting ideas in the areas of renewable energy, water technology or infrastructure and will run through 12 February 2012.  Prizes of up to €15,000 are available for successful entries.  For more information, view their flyer or visit www.innovationskraftwerk.de. 

 

What UN Climate Talks Agreed in Durban, 11 Dec 2011
(Reuters) - U.N. climate change talks in Durban, South Africa, agreed a package of measures early on Sunday that would eventually force all the world's polluters to take legally binding action to slow the pace of global changing.
